About Gerard
(1964, Amersfoort, The Netherlands)
Studied dance and music at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, the Netherlands.
In 1985 he graduated cum laude in dance at University for Applied Sciences.
Subsequently he danced with the Royal Ballet of Flanders, London Festival Ballet, English National Ballet, Concordanse Paris, Basel Ballet and Ulmer Ballet.
He danced more than 1000 performances globally in venues such as Theatre du Champs Elysees, Royal Festival Hall, London Coliseum, Royal Albert Hall, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Hungarian State Opera, Royal Theater Copenhagen, Teatro El Condeduque Madrid, Flemish Opera Antwerp and Gent.
Gerard Mosterd performed in many works by classical, modern and contemporary choreographers such as Maurice Béjart, Mikhail Fokine, Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov, Valery Panov, Youri Vamos, Jiri Kylian, Hans Van Manen, Peter Schaufuss, Christopher Bruce, Lindsay Kemp, Kim Brandstrup, Ben Stevenson, Mats Ek, Ronald Hynd, John Cranko, Kenneth MacMillan, Frederick Ashton, Antony Tudor, Natalia Makarova, Toni Lander, George Balanchine, Paul Taylor, Jose Limón.
He performed in several dance movies such as in Natalia Makarova’s Swan Lake for London Festival Ballet in 1988.
In 1995 Gerard Mosterd returned to the Netherlands and created more than 40 modern dance theater performances. With these independent shows he annually toured festivals and theaters for 20 years in the Netherlands, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
These successes resulted in many coproductions, international tours and movie productions with prominent South East Asian artists such as Goenawan Mohamad, Garin Nugroho, Martinus Miroto, Eko Supriyanto, Teater Garasi, Gumarang Sakti and festivals such as Indonesian Dance Festival Jakarta, Lanjong Arts Festival, Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival, Yogyakarta International Arts Festival, Cak Durasim Festival Surabaya etc.
Gerard Mosterd choreographed and directed the first Indonesian version of Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat with a cast of internationally renowned Javanese court dancers in 2011.
While creating/choreographing international productions and tours between South East Asia and the Netherlands, Gerard Mosterd started to organize tours for independent Asian artists such as Sutra Dance Theater, Miroto Dance Company, Wangnin Bunmei Butoh etc.
In 2010 he organized a Ballet Gala with Ballet Manila at Aliw Theater in Manila. This included guest stars from Mariinsky, Bolshoi, Kiev, Perm and prominent West European ballet companies.
Because of huge success Gerard Mosterd, next to his choreographic activities, started an impresario company based in the Netherlands, touring small and large scale Asian and East European dance, opera and ballet companies.
Among them:
Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Kyyiv Modern Ballet, Credo Kiev Choir.
